"If I were you, I'd grab it and run!" — How I came to be a ceiling fan owner
I'm posting this in Confessions, even though I don't think I did anything wrong. I just took advantage of a big-box store's sloppy accounting.
Here's what happened: I wasn't actually looking for a ceiling fan, but I don't pass up a good deal. The fixture was originally $189, marked down 50%. The sticker on the box read $80, which I assumed was a mistake since that's less than half off. The fan sat on a table beneath a sign that said "CLEARANCE 50%." I asked an employee for the price; he checked and told me it was $40, adding, "If I were you, I'd grab it and run!"
I did. The funny thing was, at the register (tax included) it rang up as $29. I said nothing and walked out with my new ceiling fan.
