How do radio operated Railroad Switches work?
Like the title says I'm wanting to know how radio-control railroad switch work. Yes I know google is a thing, but this seems more fun.
I work for a Class 1 railroad and a large yard that we visit has switches that can be triggered using our radios. We go to a channel (they are programmed frequencies), then input a tone, then the switch will line. We have 3 options based on our tone input INQUIRY (Tells verbally the position of the switch), REVERSED, or NORMAL. There's also some areas that you can get it to line multiple switches along a route in the yard. It is really kind of a cool thing to see.
I'm also curious if this is the same kind of system that train dispatchers use to line switches that are states away.
