Research subject is experiencing adverse reactions to oxytocin and unsure what to do. 50F, 129 pounds, fit, RHR 55-60bpm, normal BP, stellar recent bloodwork, never had an adverse reaction to other peps (Reta, GLOW, KPV, SS-31, MOTS-C, GHK-Cu, Selank previously tested). Birthed 2 children via pitocin-induced labor. No allergies except to sulfa meds (causes hives). Exemplary sanitation habits and procedures to maintain safe, sanitary research area.
Recently purchased a 10mg vial of Oxytocin from a US Retailer. Retailer-supplied COA indicated sampled vial was 10% overfilled but all other tests, including endotoxins and sterility, passed with flying colors. Reconstituted with 2.5mL fresh Hospira BAC water, solution perfectly clear.
Day 1, pinned 2.5 units (100mcg). Within 2 minutes, heart rate more than doubled to 129bpm, head started pounding, face hot and flush. Reaction subsided within 2-3 minutes. No blood or irritation visible at injection site.
Day 2, pinned 2.5 units / 100 mcg into a different SQ region, exact same reaction. Due to possible 10% peptide overfill, added 0.5mL BAC to further dilute by 20%.
Day 3, pinned 2.5 units (now less strength due to dilution), yet another SQ region, same reaction.
Day 4, same 2.5 units, yet another SQ region, same reaction. Reached out to retailer who claims nobody else has reported this and all tests were clear. Suggests lowering dose to 2 units. Advises not to be worried, research subject’s body will get used to it, not at risk for anaphylaxis or other severe allergic reaction.
(Note: a friend purchased a 10mg Oxytocin vial from the same retailer a week before me, reconstituted with a different brand BAC water, and her research subject who is nearly identical to mine in age/gender/weight/fitness broke out in hives but not sure if that was the cause. Did seem like quite a coincidence though.)
Day 5, 2 units (80mcg?), same reaction.
Given that oxytocin seems to be viewed as generally safe and low-risk for adverse effects, this subject tolerates peptides well, and is in good physical condition, what is the recommended course of action?
- Ride it out, not a big deal?
- Suspected contamination issue with vial, stop immediately, try again from a different supplier?
- Suspected issue with oxytocin sensitivity and never attempt again?
- Try an even smaller dose?
- Something else?
If research subject continues to use it despite the reaction, is there a risk for allergic reaction to escalate to something life-threatening like anaphylaxis? Or to develop sensitivities to other peptides?
