switching jobs while on probation?
Hi all,
In a bit of a pickle right now.
I have been working at a lab as a technician for 5 months now. Long story short, the place is a MESS, so much so to the point that I am now in fear for my job security or being worked to death (I think the place might potentially get shut down), no in between.
There is another lab that has an opening for my role, and I meet a lot of their requirements (I have also previously collaborated with this lab). I was thinking of applying to that lab; however, my field is super niche, so everybody within the field knows one another.
This is a problem as I am on probation for another month and am worried that my current employer might find out one way or another and potentially dismiss me (the only reason I think they MIGHT not is that my skills are very specialised, so I'll be hard to replace).
However, if I don't apply, I know I won't get an opportunity like this again, especially given the job insecurity right now....... What should I do, or rather how would you handle the situation if you were in my position?
