I had read this book about this grandson visiting his grandfather with his parents or just being sent there for the summer. They go on a camping trip together and I wanna say that they bring the grandson’s friend but I could be wrong. They see someone camping maybe on the other side of the river while they’re preparing their fish to eat or something. They also have an encounter with a deer or something I believe and I think they’re like “oh they must sense the kindness in you” or something. Somehow the grandfather gets hurt and I think he starts to get sick from an infection or something. So now the grandson has to find a way out of the mountains to get his grandfather help and he’s also paranoid about the other camper they saw earlier. So he makes a bed thing to carry his grandfather that attaches him to his back so that he can climb the mountain with both hands.
I think the book ended off with him being regarded as a hero or something for getting his injured grandfather to safety and surviving out in the wilderness that long basically by himself. I am also more pretty sure about the friend being brought along cus I think it was a hospital scene where they reunited or something.
