I have some unused IBCs (food grade) that I'm planning to convert to wicking beds in the future. Almost all tutorials recommend separating the reservoir layer and the soil layer with geotextile. I hate the idea of deliberately buying plastic to put into my vegetable beds, so I'm looking for advice on alternatives.

I'm thinking of heavy, unbleached cotton or linen. I know it will eventually degrade but when that happens I can rebuild the beds. Does anyone have experience doing this? If so, does it wick well enough and how long did it last before having to be replaced?

Any advice or feedback is welcome as I have never tried building a wicking bed before.
