After ~3 months of evenings and weekends, MaunaPet is live on the App Store 🎉
Quick overview of what I built:
- React Native (iOS + Android)
- Node.js + PostgreSQL backend
- AI chat powered by Claude (Anthropic)
- Subscriptions via RevenueCat
- Push notifications via Expo
**What I learned:**
App Store review is slow and unforgiving. Got rejected twice for subscription UI issues. Read the guidelines 3x before submitting.
Building is the easy part. ASO, screenshots, descriptions, that's where most time went post-build.
RevenueCat is genuinely excellent. Subscription management went from "terrifying" to "handled" in a day.
The barcode scanner feature (for pet food nutrition) took 2 days to build and is the #1 thing people comment on.
Current stats (2 weeks post-launch):
- 100 impressions on App Store (all organic, zero marketing)
- 6 installs (me + family testing 😅)
- $0 revenue
