I don't know if this actually helps at all, but this is a tip I wish I knew 3 range finders ago: Put your phone number on your range finder. I used a label maker that I almost forgot I bought ~15 years or so ago. I also added an airtag (in an adhesive case) to my latest range finder. Hopefully, this helps give you dirtbags some incentive to turn somebody else's range finder in. We'll see.
(Background: I lost my first range finder when I left it in the front compartment of a golf cart about 10 years ago. I lost my last 2 range finders within the past MONTH: Both times, they must have popped out of their carrying case hung onto the side of my bag while my electric pull cart bounced through rough terrain due to squirrel holes or some shit. I actually knew the holes where I last saw them, so I backtracked my steps after my round was over, but no luck. I also have been checking back at the pro shop numerous times since then, but no luck there, either.)
