I'm trying to replace my shower trim with a matte black one and I'm completely stuck. I've been going back and forth trying to figure out what valve I have and nothing I've bought fits.

Here's what I know:

- It's a Kohler Rite-Temp pressure-balancing valve

- There's a casting number 11699S-6 on the label inside the valve body

- The cartridge that fits it is a GP876851 (which Amazon says is compatible with K-304 and K-11748 platforms, but I'm not 100% sure that's what I have)

- House was plumbed around 2011-2012

- The old trim had a chrome lever handle with a threaded sleeve that screws onto the valve body

What I tried:

- Bought the Kohler Elate K-TS35320-4-BL in matte black -- did not fit. Couldn't get it to mount to the valve at all.

I'm shooting blanks here. I just want a modern looking matte black trim kit for this thing but I can't even figure out exactly what valve I have, let alone what trim is compatible.

Can anyone help me:

  1. Identify exactly what valve body this is from the photos?

  2. Tell me what matte black trim kits will actually fit it?

  3. Is there a reason the Elate didn't work -- am I dealing with an older valve that newer trims don't support?

Photos of the exposed valve and the old chrome trim attached. Any help is hugely appreciated -- I've been at this way too long.
