A recent experience.

Had a trip away planned with someone i was dating. It ended, at their instigation. Kind messages exchanged, which they expressed gratitude for. No hard feelings whatsoever.

I had given this person close to $1k for this trip away, it was all in their name.

They were "stunned" when i asked for this money back. Their view was that it was just a risk one takes when dating. I took the view that i'd paid for a trip i wasn't going on and i just wanted the money back. They didn't think it was fair that they'd be the one losing out financially.

I'm interested in what peoples view are.
