Similar to the original film, Tangled the series shows a range of fashion eras! The nobility shown in Before Ever After wear mostly 18th-19th centuries clothing, whereas the lower classes and servants wear medieval/renaissance fashion.
So what time period is it? Technically…not anytime specific, though most art books say the film is set sometime between the 1650s and 1810s. Ofc there’s anachronisms (Varian “invented” hot running water in Corona but it wasn’t invented until 1868).
They made the dwarves woodland creatures to avoid offending anyone, so the same will probably happen to some of the pub thugs names. Particularly “Hook Hand”, “Big Nose”, and “Shorty”
This is not the Aurora I remember who sang soprano in the middle in the forest! This is adorkable Barbie who sings mediocre songs about keys!
Princess Diana’s wedding to Prince Charles in 1981 was such a sensation, her dress is considered one of the most famous dresses in the world. And it’s apparent that Disney took inspiration from it for Ariel’s wedding dress, particularly with the gigantic sleeves. Even Eric’s outfit seems closely tailored to Prince Charles’.
What I find interesting is that despite The Little Mermaid being set centuries earlier (1700s specifically) her dress feels period appropriate as well as modern.
Cinderella is set in 19th century France, hence the Napoleonic Code of 1804 should have been in full effect. According to the law, daughters were "legally protected heirs” whereas a wife was not considered an heir if a husband died without a specific provision in his will. So Cinderella is entitled to having a fair share of his estate, even more than Lady Tremaine. Though perhaps Cinderella wasn’t aware of her rights so she unknowingly became a maid to a household that she technically owned. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lady Tremaine abused and manipulated her into signing off her inheritance to her 😬
I hope after she marries the Prince she sues them for everything they got! (Which might have actually happened considering how impoverished the Tremaines were in Cinderella 3)
