Everything was going perfectly for about 70 km of uphill driving with my Suzuki Jimny, no warning signs at all, then suddenly the engine shut off completely while driving uphill. It wouldn’t restart immediately. The engine wasn’t overheating, and there were no strange noises beforehand.

After waiting a few minutes, it started again. I tried continuing uphill, but as soon as I accelerated harder, it shut off again and wouldn’t restart. After another wait, I managed to make it to the top. Then on the way downhill, it shut off once more — again right when accelerating.

What’s confusing me is that it seems tied to throttle/acceleration, but not consistently. It doesn’t feel like overheating, and I’m not convinced it’s the fuel pump because once it cools/rests it starts again normally.

Could this be a failing sensor (crankshaft position sensor, TPS, cam sensor, etc.), an electrical issue like a relay/ground connection, or something fuel-related under load? Anyone experienced something similar on a Jimny?

Last two pictures are of the old chain mounted. Impossible to distinguish by eye, you will note you mount a new one when you put it in place, it is really hard to put, while the old stretched one was very easy to remove and replace
