Apologies if this question is dumb. Currently, I have a little M-Audio 32 key midi keyboard. I want to actually learn the piano so I want to upgrade to a portable keyboard. My question is… if I’m using my new keyboard as midi, am I limited to the sounds of the DAW? If I want to use the keyboard’s built-in sounds and effects, do I need to run it through my interface’s instrument input, like a guitar? Is there a way to combine the keyboard’s built-in sounds with the functionality of midi (dragging notes into place if they’re a bit out of time, for example)?

I’m using the latest version of Garageband, if that matters.
