This is SUBGRID. A grid-based social media platform where users own permanent spaces and build their own mini-worlds

Hey everyone 👋

I’ve been working on a side project called Subgrid and would love to get feedback from other builders.

It’s a grid of 1M tiles where each tile can be purchased and turned into a personal space to upload content, link socials, and even create smaller “subgrids” inside it. As activity grows, tiles gain more visibility across the platform.

It’s currently in beta as a web app, and I’m also building a mobile version.

If you’re curious, you can check it out here: Subgrid (new users get one free tile).

I built a million tile grid where people own spaces and build mini-worlds inside them - what's next?

Hello everyone,

Semi-long post here 😃

I’m writing this post to connect with other builders and hear thoughts about my side project.

The idea actually started a few years ago, but because the math and code behind it were quite difficult, I set it aside and left it in the background. Then AI started advancing quickly, so I used it to finally build this beta version of the application.

The idea is simple:

It’s a grid of one million tiles. Each tile costs $5, and anyone can buy as many as they want. Once purchased, a tile becomes a personal space where the owner can upload media and link their social profiles.

This idea is inspired by The Million Dollar Homepage, but expanded into something more interactive and living. Inside each claimed tile, users can create their own subgrids, name them, upload content, and invite others to contribute.

As subgrids become more active, the parent tile gains visibility and gets promoted in the platform’s discovery surfaces (*you will see the Infinity Grid inside the app if you visit it).

That’s the core idea for now.

Currently the project is web-based, but I’m also working on a mobile app version.

My biggest problem at the moment is marketing.

An app without people or content feels empty, so right now I’m trying to fill parts of the grid myself using my own content, friends, or AI-generated content just to make the world feel alive , but it still doesn’t fully satisfy me.

What I’d really want is finding a way to attract creators who want to upload content and slowly shape the world themselves (any ideas?).

That’s the story so far!

I’d genuinely love to hear thoughts, criticism, or ideas from other builders 😁

The name of the app is Subgrid.

You can check it out here:

New users will get one free tile to upload their content with the login.
