Middle management driving me crazy

I work in allied health in private practice in a relatively small business (15 employees ish). I have been working for 6 ish years and am the most experienced staff not in a management position (by choice). There are multiple “middle managers” who have similar amounts of experience to me and I am finding they have such a superiority complex. For example, I was recently specifically asked by the boss to work on a project as I had experience in the area, she needed two more people to work on it so two people in these middle management roles volunteered. Since volunteering, they have not included me in any of their meetings, and every time they talk about this project to the wider team they only mention their names, mine has not been mentioned once. The other day I was in a meeting and I was on the minutes, all the other “middle managers” were typing on the same document, often correcting what I have typed and typing things before I got to it.

For reference, I am not absolutely useless, I have been offered these middle management roles by the boss three times but declined due to other priorities. I got some of if not the best marks in university, I work for the university on the side and have a lot of experience in other areas, and I get paid about the same amount as these middle managers. Maybe I am a slightly more “fast and loose” type, but I get excellent feedback consistently from clients and actual management. Is this normal?! Why are they like this?
