Roanoke, Staunton, Charlottesville, and Culpeper - any ideas where to look further
I went to VA Tech in the 80s, we called it VPI then. I returned last year with the idea of buying a house. I want to live within 30-60 minutes of public land for hiking and near an area with shopping and access to medical care.
Been looking for 8 months and ready to give up. I love the area but the housing inventory sucks. Not much of interest and anything I remotely like goes under contract in 2-3 days. As an aside, I have learned how loud Roanoke is - seems like 80% of the city has traffic noise. I lived in Houston and Austin Tx and there are more quiet neighborhoods there. Some of the houses I could hear traffic indoors with windows closed. I like Staunton, even though it is touristy, but the houses for sale are mostly old dumps or ugly new construction and/or next to the freeway. Charlottesville - the traffic is as bad as Houston and there is little housing inventory considering the size of the town. Thinking now of Culpeper - will look at houses later this week. Considered Harrisonburg but not seeing many listings there either.
Any other ideas?
