Estate agents saying I am not entitled to my 4 month notice period
Hi,
I currently live in a house with three friends and the landlord has decided to sell the property so we decided to serve notice which would be in the beginning of July. The landlord contacted us to ask if we would be willing to stay beyond July to which I agreed that I can stay for a reduced rent but the others still had to leave for personal reasons. The landlord was worried he wouldn’t be able to sell quickly.
Fast forward a few months and I have given them the details to get a new tenancy agreement written up but the landlord has now accepted an offer on the house and the buyers are looking to complete in July when the original notice period would end. Estate agents are telling me that the original notice period still stands so that would leave me with roughly 6 weeks notice and not 4 months.
Personally I think that is ludicrous that the estate agents are saying the original notice period stands even though I agreed to stay even if a new tenancy agreement hasn’t been written up.
TLDR: Landlord put the house for sale, I served notice with my housemates but I personally agreed to stay beyond. House has now sold and estate agents are telling me that the original notice period stands and I am not entitled to a 4 month notice period.
