[US] Phone calls for my dad about a complaint being served to the county?
Today I received a voicemail where the caller believed this was my dad’s number. They make mention of a complaint to be filed with the county without making any specifics, and making it sound like there are legal documents involved, and to contact an issuing office (that is a different number), that it’s urgent, and that they will move forward without his consent. The number that called me is local to my dad’s area code (and my cell # as well, though I no longer live in the area), but the number that we’re instructed to call is an 866 number. If I google both numbers, I get no clear results.
Interestingly, I received a similar voicemail back in February along the exact same lines. Different local number was who called (and a different person who identified herself), and a different number to call back was provided. But, both calls make reference to the same file number, which is curious. I googled the two numbers from this earlier call and while nothing clear on the dialing number, the contact number did yield a result. That result was someone else reporting a similar call about their elderly mom. (My dad is almost 70.)
As I’m writing this, my mom texted me that she also received a call, but I guess she actually called back to try and get information. She says that they cannot give any to her, presumably that they would only talk to my dad.
Now I don’t think my dad does shady business, but also, he’s had money issues in all the years I’ve been alive. But I can also see him being a target with his age, and not being from the US originally (they immigrated in the 80s.)
Do we just keep ignoring these calls? If there actually is some financial complaint against him, is this what they would actually be doing?
