Is it just me, or does the game feel completely different this year? It honestly feels like the Powerplay has become the new "Death." If you aren't absolutely tonking it for 70-80 runs in those first six, you’re basically playing catch-up for the rest of the night.
The trend is pretty obvious: The teams at the top of the table right now are the ones treating the PP like a 36-ball carnage. They aren't "playing it safe" or "getting a feel for the pitch"—they’re just weaponizing the field restrictions to create a cushion.
The CSK problem:
This is where I think we’re stuttering. Our "take it deep" philosophy is legendary, but on these absolute highways, it feels a bit dated. We’re still playing traditional cricket while other teams are playing T20 on steroids. When we crawl to 45/1 in the PP, it puts an insane amount of pressure on the middle order to strike at 200+ just to keep us in the hunt.
A radical thought for batting paradises:
If we’re playing on a flat deck where the ball isn't swinging anyway, why are we bowling like it’s a Test match?
If the pitch is a cemetery for bowlers, maybe we should start using "Death Over" tactics in the Powerplay. Why not throw in some slower-ball bouncers or wide yorkers in over #3? If the openers are standing and delivering, we need to disrupt their rhythm immediately rather than saving our "best" bowling for the 19th over—by then, the game is usually already gone.
