Hello everyone,
I wanted to share my experience because it was honestly quite distressing for me, and I’m hoping to understand if this is normal.
I recently had a myringotomy with tube placement on my right ear. To be honest, it was much more painful and overwhelming than I expected. I had to stay completely still during the procedure, and there were moments when the doctor had to pause because it was becoming too much for me.
From the anesthesia, to the incision, the suctioning of fluid, and placing the tube. Each step felt very intense. I wasn’t prepared for that level of pain, and it really caught me off guard. The best way I can describe it is like having to stay completely still while something sharp is repeatedly being poked inside your ear.
Because of this experience, I’m now very hesitant about going through the same procedure on my left ear.
For those who’ve had the same procedure (patients or doctors), is this kind of experience common? Or could there have been factors that made mine more painful than usual?
I’d really appreciate any insight.
