Hey everyone,
I’m currently based in Southern California and seriously considering making a move up to Seattle to apply for the low voltage (VDV / Sound & Communication) apprenticeship with IBEW Local 46.
I wanted to ask those of you who are in Local 46 (or have experience there):
How consistent is the work for low voltage apprentices throughout the year?
Are there periods where apprentices are sitting without work, or is it pretty steady once you’re in?
How competitive is it to stay working as you progress through the program?
How does the demand for low voltage compare to inside wireman in your local?
I’m trying to get a realistic picture before making a big move, especially coming from SoCal where things can be unpredictable depending on the local.
Any insight—good or bad—would really help.
Appreciate it
