Hi all! When my vet went to do a routine blood draw she found a grape size lump on my cat’s inner front leg and took a cell sample. She told us that based on seeing spindle cells in the sample, this is sarcoma. We could do a biopsy to be sure and to identify the type of sarcoma, but regardless he will need his leg amputated which will most likely be curative. When we talked she said this is a locally aggressive cancer, but after reading others experiences on here it sounds like many have had metastasis to other organs.

If you have had a cat with sarcoma, what workup was done prior to surgery? Should I ask to have any other tests done before the amputation? Has anyone else’s cat had sarcoma and only needed an amputation? I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing for him. Thank you all so so much!!

I recently found out my sweet 8 year old boy has sarcoma and needs his front leg (and possibly scapula) amputated, this is scheduled for next week. He is such a love bug and is constantly snuggling and making biscuits and I have a lot of anxiety around the amputation changing his personality. My vet said that cats adapt incredibly well and I’ve definitely seen that in the experiences in this thread. However, I was wondering if anyone’s cat who has lost a front leg still makes biscuits? TIA and all the love to your tripods! <3
