Hi all. I've recently started playing Minecraft Bedrock edition on Xbox, and yesterday I investigated transferring it over to PC. That all went well, and then I converted the world into Java so I could play that instead, as I understand that it's the best way to play Minecraft. Aside from a few hiccups here and there I got it working, though upon playing I found that the sprint function behaves bizarrely on keyboard.

Regardless of whether I have sprint set to 'Toggle' or 'Hold' in Java, it feels like it doesn't behave correctly either way:

  • When set to 'Hold', I start sprinting upon pressing/holding the sprint key, however, I keep sprinting even after releasing the key, and pressing the key again doesn't stop it either.
  • When set to 'Toggle', I start sprinting upon pressing the sprint key, however, I keep sprinting even after pressing the key again.
  • Please note that this behaviour is the same for me in both Bedrock and Java, regardless of the settings in the latter.
  • Having searched, I think there's no option to change the sprint function in Bedrock, though my friend - who plays Bedrock on PC - says that releasing the sprint key should stop you from sprinting.
  • Stopping moving entirely is the only way for me to stop sprinting.
  • I've tried rebinding the sprint key in case it's an issue with the specific key, though the behaviour is the same regardless of the key it's bound to.
  • Note that this behaviour is consistent in Java both with and without mods installed.
  • Bedrock Version - Latest Release as of 05/05/2026.
  • Java Version 26.1.2

Are there any settings I'm missing that might be causing this? Has anyone else encountered this before and/or know of a possible solution in either Bedrock or Java? Any advice is much appreciated.
