My parents have had these two pieces of petrified wood sitting in their landscape since the 70s. My mom recently passed away and my sisters and I are cleaning up her estate. I’ve seen some really cool polished pieces of petrified wood out there as art displayed somewhere on the house. As somebody that has no idea what I’m doing … where would I start to find somebody that does this? I have one small chunk and another a bit bigger that I’d like split into two pieces. Follow up question, I’m a bit curious about the hobby… is this a task too big/risky for somebody that has no idea what they’re doing?

My parents have had these two pieces of petrified wood sitting in their landscape for decades. My mom recently passed away and my sisters and I are currently cleaning up the estate. I’d like to get these two pieces opened and polished. I’ve reached out to a couple of gem/rock folks to no avail. Is there a specialist out there that deal with petrified wood specifically? I’ve really liked some of the pieces I’ve seen out there. Is this a project you would recommend me picking up with absolutely no knowledge of what I’m doing?
