was looking at the floorplans on the website and talking to some tas/course staff + reading some stuff on Ed and honestly the more i hear about the gateway building the more i realize how much we are going to miss soda hall. the university is basically jamming cs stats and ds all into one building but then they are only giving undergrads access to the basement and the first floor. its actually insane because we are losing so much functional space where people can actually sit and work. to make it worse the building is supposed to close at 11pm every night. having to get kicked out at 11 when we are used to 24/7 access in soda is going to be such a pain for everyone especially during midterms or project weeks.

the enrollment situation is also a joke because of this building. they put 61c into a room in gateway that apparently only has 260 seats so now a ton of people who actually need the class are just stuck on the waitlist. even the limited undergrad space we do have is getting squeezed because they are cramming cs stats and cdss advising all into the first floor. they also left zero rooms for student orgs in the new building so now everyone is getting dumped into cory hall which is already crowded and impossible to book. since all the professor offices are on the upper floors that undergrads apparently cant even access the professors are going to have to compete with us for the tiny bit of space we have left just to hold office hours. it feels like they spent all the money making it look pretty and forgot that people actually need to use the building for work. So much wasted space and not worth losing Soda. :(
