I’ve reached a point where ship building in Starfield is just frustrating instead of fun, and it’s not only about forced ladders.

The system doesn’t just spam ladders, it also blocks logical door connections and replaces them with walls for no reason. I’ve had layouts where multiple hubs are directly connected, but instead of placing a door where it clearly should be, the game puts a wall there and forces me to run across half the ship just to reach the same area via a ladder somewhere else.

That makes absolutely no sense.

It feels like the system completely ignores actual layout logic. The bigger the ship gets, the worse it becomes. Instead of scaling properly, it creates more random and broken connections that don’t match the structure at all.

This turns ship building into constant trial and error. Doors don’t appear where they should, walls block valid paths, and ladders get forced in places where they are not needed.

I’m playing on Steam and trying to stay achievement-friendly, so I’m not looking for modded solutions that disable achievements.

What makes this even worse is how much it blocks creativity and frustrates players. Instead of building freely, you’re constantly fighting the system. It takes one of the best features of the game and makes it feel broken the moment you try to do anything more complex.

And the frustrating part is that the solution feels obvious. Just let us control connections. Let us choose per connection point whether it should be a door, a ladder, or simply a closed wall. Let us block ladder generation or place stairs manually.

Ship building has so much potential, but right now it actively works against the player and ends up hurting the overall experience.

Is anyone else experiencing this, or found a reliable way to deal with it without breaking achievements?
