The title is quite explanatory, but I got this internship through an advertisement in our department (one of our staff is close to the researcher and got to advertise this opportunity). It was only available to students with a low household income in my year, and I was probably the only one who applied haha
They work on swarm sensing-networks, essentially developing swarms of drones or robots that can work together to track their positions and local information like gas formations, cave structures and more! Very exciting stuff. all I was given to prepare is a dozen contracts to sign, three research papers introducing the topic (so so confusing but we got there!), and a preference for me learning Rust before I start (I am a C and Java man myself so I've been learning a little between exam prep).
I feel like I will have very little to contribute there, and worry that I will probably just keep learning what I am before I eventually leave (I would have stayed longer but expensive and my placement year starts soon after). Has anyone had a similar opportunity in an early stage of their academia? The researcher has been on leave for months and I have no idea what to expect!
