Keep my iPhone 14+ or buy a 17 (or wait for 18?)

I have an iPhone 14+. My only complaints is that it has a 79% battery life now, lots scratches on the LED itself from the previous owner that used to peeve me but now I’ve gotten desensitized, and it’s a bit heavy for my liking. There’s no lagging yet and it’s still a solid phone for my purposes (texts, calls, reading, writing, social media, youtube, spotify, not gaming and I don’t really care about the camera but it is a plus).
I’ve been eyeing the iPhone 17 base model, did my research and I liked its features and hardware upgrades. The thing is, this’ll be a “first salary” gift to myself since I’ve never gotten a brand new phone before. Every phone I got where hand-me-downs. I don’t know if 17 is a justifiable jump from 14+.
I have an old iPhone 13 mini lying around and I could upcycle it with my 14+ to make the price more manageable, so I still have some savings leftover. I have been mulling this decision over for a hot minute.
Objectively speaking, is upgrading from the 14+ to 17 wise? Or should I just stomp this urge down?
