I recently spoke with a PO at NCI regarding a recent NIH Highlighted Topic. The individual was supportive of our work and encouraged us to submit a proposal. However, I checked on the number of new RO1s which had been supported by NCI in 2026 and did not find a single award (like zero). Is this truly the condition of this Institute? Should I even bother submitting the project?
