Hey guys,

I'm hoping you guys can share some of your evo engine wisdom.

The top end on my 97 dyna with 55000 km (I'm from europe) on it has just been rebuild because of excessive oil usage. so new pistons and rings, valve seals, gaskets, new tappets (heavy duty S&S) and they did the cilinder walls.

When picked up the bike from the shop they told me that they specifically checked the oil level just before i arrived and it was good to go for the break in. I start the bike and all is good, nice and quiet, runs great. The ride back home was 200 km and i took my sweet time with it, no very high or low rpms, smooth riding and some stops to let the engine cool.

At the last bit of the ride i notice a little whining from the lower end that was not there before and when i arrive home there is a slight knock in the front cilinder.

Its an evo engine so some noise is fine but i'm not sure about this. Time to check the oil and there is way too much oil in the tank.. i had to drain 700 ml before it was at the full mark (checked the oil both hot and cold)

Noise is gone when the engine is cold.

The drained oil had quite a bit of metal in it as you can see in the video.

After a rebuild some sparkle is acceptable but how much is too much? Did either me or the mechanic mess up?

Edit: shop said not to ride it anymore, will come pick up the bike and give me a loaner heritage for my trip to the superrally in Denmark.

But now the engine needs a full rebuild right? The lower end will have suffered from this disco party?

Thanks for replying everyone!
