Does anyone else find it hard to use characters they don't own?

When I realised that the extra levels in trap team cost so much, I put to rest any thoughts about clearing the series. That was unil I found out about NFC cards and how to make them. Getting the gear for it was infinitely cheaper than buying the levels outright secondhand.

I quickly found out I could do more than that. UFO hat in swap force, ease! Spring time hat to finish my hat collection, sorted.

Despite having a massive bag of unassigned chips cheaply and the system set up to make whatever characters I want, I find myself spending more on figures instead.

Sure, like a kid with five bucks in a candy store I had my thrill when I first got it. I made a few of the cores I hadn't even thought about before, tested out eon elite characters that are so expensive, but then I sort of just chucked those chips to the side to get more characters.

It's not that I feel guilty for making the chips, but I feel like I guess they aren't MINE? Like playing with them, moving them from console to console, game to game, it didn't have the same thrill as using figures I actually owned. It was so easy to just toss a chip away and forget about it as I kept going back to the characters I do own.

In the mean time whilst I'm waiting for more superchargers, I've jumped on imaginators for a quick glance at the game. Despite originally thinking that frankly this was the one game I was fine with the majority of my characters being NFC just so I have access to all the content, loading in characters from robo to windstorm, I've kept to only 10 sensei to have 1 of each element/battle class. BUT STILL, I just haven't had fun playing with them, in fact, all are level 1. Only crash bandicoot, the single Sensei I've owned, have I actually used to play. Alongside my creation crystals. Like I know I could have the entire Sensei roster at hand. I just can't bring myself to use them.

This is all coming off the back of just buying a small lot of senseis, having come to terms that I did WANT to play them. But I need them to be mine. Deciding that I'm probably never going to be okay with dishing out 300 for robo, Wildstorm, or Breeze, but I'm fine with it.

I'm not here to say that people who use NFC aren't real skylander lovers, because who the hell gatekeeps something they love? Whatever way you find to make the game accessible and fun for you will always be valid. I was just wondering if there were others like me who can't bring themselves to use NFC with CHARACTERS and prefer playing with the figures they actually own.

Collection bonus imaginators

One thing that is consistent with the other games is that by increasing your collection of a singular element, Skylanders of that element gain an elemental bonus whilst in their specific elemental zones.

Imaginators only really has their Sensei in the collection tab, adding Skylanders from other games increases the collection tab maximum total, however it seems that elemental bonus isn't a thing anymore?

Is it worth it to scan every skylander I have onto my imaginators game, or does it do nothing but just show my collection. I know senseis will increase my max imaginator level by 1.

So I started Skylanders when they first came out, was an avid lover of the series until I got a bit annoyed at trap team. Whilst I played all the games on PS3 with my brother, we got annoyed beyond hell at the gatekeeping (quite literally) that trap team had. Still I had a trap master and trap of every attribute aside from dark and light. When superchargers was announced I was well out of my skylanders phase, plus we had sold our PS3 and brought a ps4 and frankly thought vehicles was a let down after swapforce and trap team.

Last year I got an urge to revisit the series. I brought the first 5 series all on Wii and Wii u. Working my way through them with the vast collection of Skylanders I had tucked away in a box in the attict. Ended up buying whole new ones to complete my collection in the end, for example I never had a stealth swapforce character, I had the 16 others though. And I brought both the light and dark trap masters and traps.

Been really on and off with it, but I've just now finished trap team and I thoroughly enjoyed every ounce of it. I still enjoy the more complex and lengthy level designs of swapforce more, but I liked the difficulty curve trap team had on higher difficulties. Kaos was a slog though. My first playthrough of trap team this time round I used all minis(Frankly I think they're adorable and I wish I was playing more at this time so I could have gotten Breeze. No way am I shelling out 400), switching to my eon elite chop chop for nightmare.

Anyway, just wanted to rattle on about my experience with the series. I'm just about to start superchargers for the first time.

My toy line up being:

Shark shooter terrafin

Stormblade

Vehicles:

Dive bomber

Sea shadow

Shark tank

Burn-cycle

Sky slicer

Jet stream

  • The 3 trophies

Looking forward to seeing this game completely blind

Wish me luck, Portal masters
