Recently, I noticed a strong burning rubber smell under the hood. It’s already going in for timing belt replacement on the fifth this month (last replacement was at 94k). I’m suspecting a bad pulley or tensioner for my accessory belt or maybe even just a bad belt. The accessory belt was last replaced on 02/24/2025, so I’d be shocked if that was the culprit. I mentioned the front fan in the video because somebody suggested running the car up and seeing if that fan goes at all.
I have checked coolant and oil levels. Coolant is a little below the full line, so could do with a top off, I’d think. Still a good green color. Engine oil was last changed 3/26/26 and looks like tea still. Not sure if this info helps.
I have also noticed I do get an occasional whine when the air is running, hot or cold. It only lasts for about 3-5 seconds and then stops. This has been a problem for over a year. The burning smell, however is new. I haven’t driven my car anywhere until today just to get it to operating temps and see if I could notice anything. I’m better versed in cars than the average Joe, but I still don’t know much. Please be kind, and I’m sorry for my annoying voice in the video. I’m trying to learn all that I can with cars.
