I've always been interested with the paranormal but my hopes for an experience were always something grand. A full body apparition or a devil dog or something. Something amazing. My run ins with the weird have failed to live up to those expectations. Today I will share with you my experience with an impossible disappearing, and then reappearing, tile grout sealant cap.
This begins as it must, with repairing a hole in my shower wall that plumbing required to access the pipes beyond. The hard work was completed, and I had arrived at the finish line. I was home alone sealing the grout. I had a relatively small bottle of the stuff and made sure to put the cap with the other stuff I was working with. I needed to reapply the stuff the following day and so I needed that damned cap. Task completed I reached for the cap to find it missing. Being home alone, with time to kill, I decided to waste sometime finding it.
Swept with a broom, and nothing. Got down on the floor with a dustpan and its accompanying brush and swept everything like I was working a crime scene. If I missed a single spot, I had no doubt that's where the cap would be. No luck. Fearing I had still missed something I turned off the lights and got down to floor level and swept the entire floor with a flashlight. Maybe I see a reflection or a shadow or something that would lead me to my prize. Multiple angles. Nothing. Finally, I figured the worst had occurred the damned cap had vanished down the drain and was lost forever.
Accepting of defeat, I took the trash out and put all the tools away. Upon returning to the bathroom to make sure I didn't leave anything behind; I found the cap sitting in the very middle of the bathroom floor. Upright as if placed to mock my efforts. There is simply no way that it could be there. I swept that very spot multiple times, stood there, crawled through that very spot, looked over that spot with a flashlight from above and face against the ground. Yet there it was.
What do you do with something like this? It's nothing. It's a trivial item that is easily explained by assuming I simply missed it. Yet I know that it wasn't there.
