I just launched Crit The Beat, a Guitar Hero-like browser rhythm game with 27 songs, 9 tracks, 2 bosses and live leaderboards.

I used to play a lot of DDR and FFR back in the day, so this is basically me trying to recreate that old rhythm game obsession: the flow, the missed note rage, the “one more try” loop, all of it.

I originally wanted to make it more of a roguelike rhythm game, but between work, kids and the deadline, I had to cut the scope and focus on shipping a solid arcade version first.

Would love feedback from rhythm-game people:

  • does the timing feel good?
  • are the beginner tracks actually accessible?
  • is the difficulty curve fair?
  • would a roguelike mode be exciting, or should I focus on more songs / bosses first?

Trailer below.
