Hi *, our Drake seems to be misbehaving recently.
He’s about one year old and he seems to become more and more aggressive towards absolutely everyone walking in the garden. As soon as he sees someone walking around, he will instantly run towards you and start picking at whatever body part he can reach. Shoes, feet, hands, whatever. Initially it was a bit funny but right now we cannot even walk in a straight line without the fear of accidentally breaking his neck because he will run around your feet so closely. We have not found a way yet to shoo him away.
What we’ve tried so far: A) picking him up and carrying him around for a while, as it is recommended to do with roosters. B) Grabbing him and kind of throwing him away a bit so he flies for one or two meters. C) Gently pushing him down on his back/neck onto the floor to demonstrate dominance.
But no matter what, as soon as we let go, he will instantly turn around and attack again. He‘s not really hurting anybody but he also tries to attack our dog and he becomes more and more annoyed and I’m really afraid one day the dog will hurt him seriously or we accidentally break his neck while just walking in the garden. Sometimes it really looks like he’s trying to find a way to end his own life prematurely 😩
I’d really appreciate any ideas on how to stop this behaviour, thanks so much 🙏
Edit: it’s an Indian runner duck, forgot to mention that initially
