Possible retaliation after workers comp claim, considering options

Location: Washington

Washington State worker here, I'm pretty new with my current employer. I filed a workers' compensation claim through L&I after a workplace injury and shortly after noticed a significant change in how management treats me.

The branch manager has told me multiply times that this matter is costing too much money to the company. I recently received a formal written counseling document that directly mentions my workers' comp status inside a disciplinary write-up about a minor policy issue that was resolved mutually between both parties.

Additional context:

• An HR representative made an unusual visit to our location the day after my medical appointment and all of a sudden appears in a write-up as he had counseled me and that didn't happen

• The policy I was disciplined for is selectively enforced — others including management violate it without consequence

• I have a witness to the incident that triggered the write-up and for comments they have made

• I have a photo of the original document

My questions:

• Does this sound like retaliation under Washington State law?

• I'm thinking about quitting due to the hostile environment and pressure — would that hurt any potential claim?

• Is this worth pursuing legally and what does that process typically look like in Washington?

Not currently represented, just looking for general guidance before consulting an attorney. Thanks in advance.
