hey everyone, I am 25 married and plan to have children with my wife within a year or two. my wife and I both work full time and my current job I’ve been there almost 5 years and worked my way up to a foreman at a animal feed mill. I work evenings my wife works days so we only see each other on off days for us.

Over the last 3-4 months I’ve been considering changing careers and starting an apprenticeship as a carpenter I’ve done some carpentry work for myself and wife so I know a little about it but never done it for a job. I’m making around 61000 before tax so the apprenticeship would be a pay cut but my wife and I know we could make the less pay work. I just want the feeling I used to have where I turn around after the shift and can see what I’ve accomplished and made as a supervisor I don’t get that.

so I guess my question is this should I do it, is it really worth losing money per hour but get a schedule that lines up more with my life. so and I setting myself and my wife up for a hard life by kind of just making us lose money since if I leave my current job and could make the same amount within 3-4 years after i finish my apprenticeship.

I know everyone will have a different opinion but I want to be happy with my work and more importantly take care of my family. thank you all.

edit: my pay now is salary and I do work over I don’t make any extra with that and I’m located around Knoxvilla TN
