How do I use the PS5 "External Storage" for media?

A lot of guides and videos explain PS5 external storage mainly for PS4 games, but barely talk about using it for media like movies, music, screenshots, or video clips. I figured it would be more straightforward by now, especially since external drives are pretty common for consoles.

I recently connected an external USB drive to my PS5 because I wanted to keep some movies and old media files on it instead of filling up the console storage. The problem is that I’m getting mixed results depending on the format and where the files are stored. Some files show up fine through the Media Gallery or Media Player, while others don’t appear at all even though the drive itself is recognized.

I’m also confused about whether the PS5 treats “extended storage” differently from a normal USB media drive. If I format the drive one way, can I still use it for videos/music, or does it become game-storage only?

Right now I’m mainly trying to:

  • Watch MP4 movie files from the drive
  • Store screenshots/video captures externally
  • Maybe keep music files on there too

For anyone already doing this regularly, what’s the best setup? File system? Folder structure? Separate drives? I feel like I’m overcomplicating something that should be simple lol.

How do I change the PS5's "Language" settings?

A lot of consoles today make it super easy to switch languages, but it also means one wrong button press can leave you completely lost in the settings menu. I was helping someone set up their PS5 earlier and somehow the system language got changed to something neither of us can read.

The problem is that now every menu option looks unfamiliar, so trying to switch it back feels like guessing our way through a maze. I tried using Google Translate with my phone camera, but some of the icons and layout still confuse me.

Does anyone know the quickest way to change the PS5 language settings back to English without having to factory reset the console? Maybe there’s a universal menu path or shortcut that works regardless of language?

Would really appreciate any step-by-step help from people who’ve dealt with this before.

How do I fix the PS5 "NP-102942-8" login error?

Seen a bunch of people mention random PSN login problems lately, but the “NP-102942-8” error has been especially annoying because it doesn’t really explain what’s actually wrong. Some posts say it’s network-related, others blame PSN servers, and a few people claim it’s tied to account verification or system software issues.

I started getting this error yesterday out of nowhere when trying to sign into my PS5 account. Internet is working fine on every other device in the house, and online games were working earlier in the day. Now the console either fails during sign-in or loops for a while before giving me the error code again.

So far I’ve tried:

  • Restarting the console
  • Power cycling the router
  • Switching from Wi-Fi to LAN
  • Testing internet connection in settings
  • Logging out and back into PSN
  • Checking for system software updates

None of that has fixed it permanently. Sometimes it works for a few minutes, then the error comes back again.

Before I reset the whole console or mess with DNS settings, I wanted to ask if anyone here has dealt with this specific error and found an actual long-term solution. Was it a PSN issue on Sony’s side, or did you have to manually change something to get back online consistently?

Would appreciate any suggestions because this one is driving me crazy.

How do I find my PSN "Download Queue"?

A lot of the newer PlayStation UI updates seem cleaner on the surface, but sometimes it feels like basic features get buried for no reason. One thing that's been driving me crazy lately is trying to find the actual PSN download queue and see what's happening with downloads in real time.

I recently started re-downloading a bunch of games after upgrading storage, and now I can't tell which downloads are paused, queued, stuck, or actually progressing. Sometimes I get a notification saying something started downloading, but then I can't find the queue afterward unless I randomly stumble into the right menu.

I’m on PS5, but honestly I also had similar confusion on PS4 before. I tried checking the Downloads/Uploads section from the control center, but it seems inconsistent depending on what’s downloading. Maybe I’m missing a faster way to access it?

Is there an easy method you all use to find the PSN download queue quickly? Also, can you prioritize downloads manually anymore or check if something failed without digging through notifications?

Would appreciate any tips because I feel like I’m overlooking something obvious here.

How do I fix the PS5 "CE-107520-5" software error?

A lot of the PS5 error codes seem to disappear after a restart, but this one has been way more stubborn than I expected. I’ve seen a few scattered posts about “CE-107520-5,” but most of the fixes sound temporary or only worked for some people.

The issue started while trying to install a game update, and now it randomly appears during downloads or system-related installs. Sometimes the download pauses out of nowhere, and other times the console just throws the error before finishing. What’s weird is that my internet connection seems completely fine on every other device.

So far I’ve tried:

  • Restarting the console multiple times
  • Pausing/resuming downloads
  • Rebuilding the database in Safe Mode
  • Deleting and reinstalling the affected game
  • Checking storage space
  • Switching from Wi-Fi to Ethernet

None of those fixed it for good. The console works normally otherwise, which makes this even more confusing.

I also noticed some people saying it could be tied to corrupted cache/data or even a recent system software update. I’m trying to avoid doing a full factory reset unless that’s genuinely the only reliable solution.

Has anyone here actually solved CE-107520-5 long term? If so, what ended up working for you? Did you have to reinstall the system software entirely, or was there a smaller fix I’m missing?

How do I use the PS5 "Cloud" storage for saves?

A lot of people say the PS5 cloud storage system is super convenient, but the more I look into it, the more confusing it feels — especially when it comes to syncing saves automatically vs manually uploading/downloading them.

I recently started switching between two PS5 consoles pretty often, and I noticed some of my game progress wasn’t matching up. One console had newer saves, while the other seemed to load older data. I thought cloud saves were supposed to update automatically, but now I’m worried I might accidentally overwrite something important.

What’s throwing me off is the difference between:

  • console storage saves
  • cloud storage saves
  • auto-sync
  • manual upload/download

I’ve also seen people mention that some games don’t sync properly unless you close the game first, which sounds kind of risky if you don’t realize it.

Right now I’m mainly trying to figure out the safest way to:

  • keep progress synced between two PS5s
  • avoid overwriting newer saves
  • check which save is actually the latest
  • know when I should manually upload/download instead of trusting auto-sync

I have PS Plus, so cloud storage is available to me, but I feel like I’m missing some “best practice” that experienced users follow.

How are you guys managing your cloud saves? Do you fully trust auto-sync or do you manually manage everything?

A lot of modern TVs still seem to have weird scaling quirks, especially when it comes to consoles. You’d think by now everything would just auto-fit perfectly, but apparently not.

I’ve been running into an issue with my PS5 where parts of the screen feel slightly cut off — like UI elements in games are just a bit too close to the edges or even partially missing. It’s not super dramatic, but definitely noticeable and kind of annoying once you see it.

I looked around and saw people mentioning the “Screen Area” setting on the PS5, but I’m not totally sure I’m adjusting it the right way or if I’m missing something on the TV side instead. I tried tweaking it once, but it didn’t seem to fully fix the issue.

For context, I’m using a fairly standard TV (nothing super high-end), and I haven’t really messed with its picture settings much beyond basic stuff.

So I guess my questions are:

  • Where exactly is the correct place to adjust the PS5 screen area?
  • Should I be changing something on my TV instead (like aspect ratio or overscan)?
  • Is there a “proper” way to calibrate it so everything lines up cleanly?

Would appreciate any tips — this feels like one of those simple things that somehow turns confusing fast.

Seen a bunch of scattered mentions about the WS-116415-8 error popping up on PS5, but no clear, consistent fix that actually works long-term. From what I gather, it seems tied to network or PlayStation Network connectivity issues, but the solutions people suggest are all over the place.

I’ve been running into this problem for the past couple of days, mostly when trying to access online features or even just logging into my account. Sometimes it randomly works again after a restart, but then the error comes back out of nowhere. My internet is stable on every other device, so I don’t think it’s a general connection issue.

So far I’ve tried:

  • Restarting the console (multiple times)
  • Resetting my router
  • Switching from Wi-Fi to LAN
  • Checking PSN status (looked fine at the time)

Nothing seems to permanently fix it.

Has anyone here actually managed to solve this for good? Is this something on Sony’s end, or is there a specific setting/network tweak I’m missing? Any help or insight would be seriously appreciated

It feels like every time the PlayStation interface gets updated, simple things get buried under new menus. I’ve seen a few guides online about checking your PSN wallet balance, but half of them seem outdated or don’t match what I’m seeing on my console.

From what I understand, it should be somewhere under account settings or payment management, but the exact path seems to vary depending on whether you're on console, app, or web.

I’m trying to keep track of my spending a bit better, especially since I recently redeemed a gift card and want to make sure the funds actually went through. I checked around on my PS5 and couldn’t immediately find the balance without going halfway through the purchase flow, which feels weird.

Am I missing something obvious? Where’s the most straightforward way to check the wallet balance right now (preferably on PS5, but app/web works too)?

Seen a bunch of scattered mentions about the PS5 throwing the “CE-100005-6” error during installs, but most threads either die without a clear solution or suggest things that don’t seem to work consistently.

From what I understand, it’s supposed to be related to installation issues (disc or download), but the fixes people suggest are all over the place — anything from rebuilding the database to wiping the console entirely. Kinda wild there isn’t a clear answer yet.

So here’s my situation: I keep hitting this error when trying to install a game (disc version). It gets partway through copying, then just stops and throws the code. I’ve already tried:

  • Cleaning the disc (it’s basically spotless)
  • Restarting the console
  • Deleting and retrying the install
  • Making sure there’s plenty of storage space

Still no luck. I’m hesitant to jump straight to a factory reset unless I know it actually works for this specific issue.

Has anyone here dealt with this error and actually fixed it? If so, what ended up being the solution? Would really appreciate any advice before I go nuclear on my system

I’ve seen a bunch of people mention how easy it is to edit gameplay clips directly on the PS5, especially using the built-in “Video Studio” tools—but honestly, I feel like I’m either overlooking something obvious or just using it completely wrong.

The idea of quickly trimming, stitching, and sharing clips without needing to transfer everything to a PC sounds super convenient. That’s kind of the whole appeal, right? But when I try to do anything beyond basic trimming, it starts to feel really limited or just unintuitive.

I’ve been trying to put together short highlight clips from a few recent gaming sessions—nothing fancy, just cutting out downtime and maybe combining a couple of moments—but I keep running into issues. Either I can’t find certain options people talk about, or the workflow just feels clunky compared to what I expected.

At this point, I’m wondering:

  • Is there actually a “Video Studio” feature I’m missing, or is it just the basic media gallery tools?
  • Are there any hidden tricks or shortcuts that make editing smoother?
  • Or do most people just export their clips and edit elsewhere?

Would really appreciate any tips, especially from people who regularly edit on PS5. Right now I feel like I’m fighting the system more than using it

I've seen a lot of people mention that the PS5 is supposed to handle updates in the background, which sounds great in theory—until it starts doing things you didn’t expect.

Lately, my PS5 has been downloading and installing updates automatically even though I’m pretty sure I turned that off when I first set it up. It’s not the end of the world, but it is annoying when I turn it on hoping to play and get hit with an update I wasn’t planning for (especially with my internet speeds being kinda inconsistent).

I went digging through the settings again, but I feel like I might be missing something or maybe there’s more than one place to control this?

Has anyone here figured out exactly how to fully disable or customize the auto-update behavior? Is it tied to rest mode settings or system updates vs game updates separately?

Would appreciate any guidance—trying to keep things a bit more manual on my end.

Lately I’ve been seeing more people mention random PS5 errors popping up out of nowhere, and one that keeps coming up is NP-102947-3. From what I’ve read, it seems tied to network or PlayStation Network issues, but the fixes people suggest are all over the place.

I ran into this error a couple days ago while trying to connect online, and ever since then it’s been super inconsistent. Sometimes it works fine after a restart, other times I just get locked out completely. I’ve already tried the basic stuff like restarting the console, checking my internet, and even logging out and back into my account.

What’s weird is that my connection seems stable for everything else, so I’m not sure if it’s actually on my end or something with PSN. I’d rather not factory reset my console unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Has anyone here dealt with this specific error and found a reliable fix? Did anything actually work long-term, or is this just one of those “wait it out” situations?

I keep seeing people mention that all your bought games are safely stored in your “Purchased” library on PlayStation, but finding it hasn’t been as straightforward as I expected. With all the UI changes over the years, it feels like things keep getting moved around or renamed.

I recently wanted to re-download a couple of older games I bought a long time ago, but when I checked my library, I couldn’t tell if I was actually seeing everything I own or just what’s currently installed or recently played. I also noticed some stuff missing that I’m pretty sure I purchased digitally.

I’m on PS4 (though I also have access to a PS5), and I’m not sure if I’m just looking in the wrong place or misunderstanding how the library works now. Is there a specific section labeled “Purchased,” or is it mixed into something like “Your Collection”?

Would really appreciate a clear step-by-step or explanation of where to go, especially if the process is different between PS4 and PS5. Also, is there a way to double-check purchases outside the console (like via browser)?

Thanks in advance—this is driving me a bit crazy
