Need advice. Got a new per diem role at a big health center as a discharge/outpatient pharmacist. Some shifts will be discharge med counseling and other shifts will be at the outpatient pharmacy (very retail similar). Currently work part time at an acute care long term facility. Work load is very easy.
Current dilemma is this: new PRN role requires 30-40 h availability (10hr shifts) and must be completely open. Current PT job has set schedule that is 3x a week, one day is a weekend. Part time job is off by 330/430, PRN role is off by 630/730. New role is almost $20 more in pay.
When I took the job, the manager said in interview I needed to be available 30-40h (meaning minimum 30h right?!); I disclosed I have a set part time schedule and that I could work the other days. Now they are telling me I must be 100% open availability bc they do not give set days, it’s all random based on need. Manager didn’t seem interested in working around my PT schedule (told me they need 100% flexibility).
I want to keep the new job bc of the potential for growth (it’s a county job) but don’t want to leave my PT bc I want to keep those clinical skills. But it seems like this will be impossible with having to have complete open availability for the PRN job (would even be hard to coordinate bc PRN only makes the schedule 2 weeks in advance). What would yall do?
TLDR: new per diem job wants full time availability and won’t work around part time schedule. Pay is ~$20 more with more room for growth, but want to keep PT job to keep current clinical skills. New job = more demanding, longer hours.
