Honestly I love it. I’m new to d&d at 40 and found some friends who played. Joined their party, I’m 3 sessions in. Last session, their friend who is apparently pretty flaky joined. His sole purpose is to get killed each session in case he can’t make the next and come back as a rando. Didn’t know if this was common practice, weird, or anything but honestly I love making the random guy try traps first and drink strange stuff. I highly recommend if it works with your party
