Hi, I’d just set up my old Wii from the early 2010s again and everything seems to be working. I can play games like MKW and Wii sports, if they’re usb loaded, I believe there are no problems with power or video output.
But I bought a MKW disc, which has a little chip. Barely noticeable when touching, at the very edge, which the system just doesn’t want to read.
I tried adding different angles of images, to give an idea of the chip.
When put in, it recognises the game as Mario Kart Wii, but when trying to start it either by itself or through the retro rewind channel it whirrs loudly for a moment, then stops and shows the refer to the manual screen.
I tried the drive with three other discs, one Wii game scratched so badly, it wasn’t even recognised, so that didn’t help.
The other two games I could check right now were two GameCube games, one of which works flawlessly, the other doesn’t even start, but gets recognised as a GameCube game.
The first bit of google search lead me to the conclusion, that I should clean the lens, but then why can it read the other games? Is it just by chance and is the chip in the MKW disc fatal? Is there a way to check for myself whether the disc or the drive is at fault? What do you think
