I wasn't sure where the best place for this post was, so I am putting it here.

I live in a rented terrace house in Tower Hamlets, and we are having some issues over bins. When we moved in years ago, we were told to use 4 large "dumpster" style bins (2 recycling and 2 general waste) which were across the cul-de-sac from us. One of these bins was destroyed and hasn't been replaced, so I got onto the council about it as one of the recycling bins was being used for general waste.

Apparently, according to the council, these bins are for the block of flats and maisonettes that they sit next to. All our waste (terrace and flat block) fit before one of the bins was destroyed and not replaced. The bins are hired from the council so I feel like they should have replaced it anyway but whatever.

However, I have absolutely no idea where we, or our neighbours are meant to put our waste? None of the properties in our terrace, or the terrace behind ours have individual bins. All the other properties on the estate are maisonettes and flats.

I think the landlords are different for each of our properties in the terrace. The council said I should get my landlord to contact them and hire bins for us, but I think they're scratching their heads over this as much as we are. (EDIT: If the properties were never given wheelie bins but were meant to have them, does that still mean our landlord/us have to pay for them? I suspect that we were never given them, as no one has them.)

I don't really want us to all be given wheelie bins: there isn't space for them in front of our properties and the parking on the road means that the bin crews are going to have a hell of a time getting the bins from in front of our house to the bin lorry. The current arrangement works well, even if it isn't strictly kosher.

I vaguely regret getting into this now.
