Hi I'm reading Ship Of Destiny (about 1/3 of the way through) and I can't figure out if I haven't had some things revealed to me or if I forgot them.

The signs of mutiny and piracy are obvious in Lavoy but I can't remember if I met him before he joined the Paragon crew. Have I met him before? Like should I remember him being involved with Kennit? Please dont spoil if it wasn't revealed to me in earlier books!
This is one I'm just afraid to google because I don't want anything spoiled. Why did the 3 Ships families come to Bingtown? Did they come willingly? Were we told where they came from? I know I was given some info about them before but I forgot.
