My almost 7 month old has never been a good independent sleeper. He has pretty much always napped in the carrier, except for the first 2 months where he would sleep in the pram or accept a transfer. For the first four months I would fees him to sleep and cosleep but that stopped working at around 3.5 months. At that stage he wouldn't sleep unless he remained latched which wasn't working for me. I broke the feed to sleep association and I now rock him to sleep but he will NOT accept being transferred. I have tried rocking for 5 minutes, 11 minutes, 15 minutes and 20 minutes but the second I even go to lower him he wakes up and starts crying.
He has been sleeping on my chest all night for the past 2 months. He will sleep an initial stretch of 2 hours but then wake up and start crying, and needs me to either feed him or get up and rock him.
I did get him down to 2 feeds per night a few weeks ago but recently when he wakes for the first time I will rock him for 30 minutes and he is still crying on and off and so I give in and feed. To get some amount of sleep he is feeding 3 - 4 times a night now.
We briefly tried pick up and put down last week for 7 days but once I have picked him up once or twice and placed him back down, he will not settle. We then get stuck in a cycle of him crying the second I lay him down and he just can't calm. I have tried singing, patting, shushing and almost getting into the crib but nothing except picking him up helps.
I feel so trapped. Im in bed 7pm every night because he needs to sleep on me and in bed desperately trying to keep him sleeping until 6:40. Has anyone had any luck with a baby like this?
He is on 3 naps, sometimes 2 (didn't make a difference). Ww are 2 - 2.2/3/3-4
