Hey all,

I'm a purple belt who started BJJ back about 6 years ago. While the thought of competing interested me before, I never went through with it because I played sports in high school and always got super sore over a loss. The obvious difference here is team sport versus individual sport reflection. If I lost in lacrosse or hockey, well, I had a bad game, but we lose as a team. Sometimes I had great games and we still lost. Is what it is, right?

I competed twice now for the first time ever this year at purple belt and I've lost all three matches so far. I get tunnel vision before the match starts and even though my cardio is great and I can run for miles and roll for 30-40+ minutes straight no problem, I felt gassed after about 20 seconds.

The last match I did really bothered me to the point where it's kind of dimmed my interest on doing jiu jitsu at all anymore. Has anyone ever experienced this? If so, was there a way you sort of coached your way out of this mindset?

Thanks
