So I was looking at the sprites for the luftwaffe jet designs and I can't really find any resource that links them to any real world designs or concepts, so I thought I would share what I think, or what I could find, they're meant to be, or what their influences are. I would love to hear what you guys think they might be based off too.
- Heinkel He 31
This one is pretty simple, searching it up returns a postward design by Heinkel engineer Siegfried Gunter. The Florett never passed the design stage, but there are surviving drawings and even a metal model.
- Messerschmitt Me 300
So I thought this one would be pretty simple, the name is very similar to the Helwan Ha 300, a postwar interceptor design by Willy Messerschmitt when he was working for Hispano Aviacion, expenses caused Hispano to drop the project, which was then picked up by Egypt, where the only 3 models would be produced. The problem is that Iberia also gets the Helwan, for obvious reasons, and the in game sprites for the Iberian and German interceptors look noticeably different. As for now, my best guess is that the different devs at different times did the diagrams based off the same design, resulting in a divergence.
- Messerschmitt Me 350
Ok so this was the first to really stump me, despite carrying the Messerschmitt name, it doesn't seem to correspond to any of Willy Messerschmitts other postwar designs. As for 1960s jets, the most resemblance I can find is the Dassault Etendard II, a failed mirage competitor that would be developed further into the Etendard IV attacker, though I'm not really sure why a French jet was selected for the model, as as far as I can read, the design was only tangentially related to the Germans, with French aircraft designs starting with the Ouragan being moreso defined by British and American conventions. Additionally, the tailplane (a high T tail) from what I can see does not correspond to the Dassault's Cruciform tail, and the wings appear to be mounted higher than in the Etendard. Still, its the closest thing I could find.
- Arado Ar 560 8
Mercifully, this one is based off a WW2 design based on the Ar 234. It did not pass the design phase
- Arado Ar 700
Despite carrying the Arado name, this design appears to be based on the late war Junkers EF 132, with the only noticeable difference being the placement of engines in underwing nacelles, rather than being embedded in the wing as per the original design, probably to represent the placement of more modern engines in an old design.
I was gonna do more (1970s designs) but I'm too busy right now to finish so I might do a follow up
