Brigitte Bardot was surprisingly racist (a redo of post from yesterday that was horribly written on my part!)
Bardot is no doubt absolutely stunning, a phenomenal actress, and very culturally significant for french cinema and fashion. she revolutionized female sexuality in film, but later became insanely racist, islamophobic, anti-immigrant, and would remark that she thought the #MeToo movement was "hypocritical" and "ridiculous." while she founded the Bardot Foundation for animal welfare, she's shown lack of sympathy to human people, showing strong hatred for the muslim community, immigration, interracial marriage in her books and letters. she was convicted in french courts for inciting racial hatred multiple times.
i've seen her become almost romanticized online, particularly for her sexuality and absolutely killer fashion, and i think it's important to remember what a bastard she really was. i personally knew her for her music and for her animal rights activism, and for a very long time, i had thought that she was actually a very cool person, until recently when the whole Chappell Roan discourse regarding Brigitte Bardot came out. very shattering.
