Freshman admitted for Letters and Science & guaranteed admission to the Clark School

Current understanding of Clark School transfer requirements:

  1. Completion of MATH 141 with minimum grade of B- or better (Satisfied by Calc BC).
  2. Completion of PHYS 161 with a minimum grade of B- or better (Possibly satisfied by Physics-C).
  3. Completion of either CHEM 135 or CHEM 271 or CHEM 134 with a minimum grade of C- or better.
  4. Minimum grade point average of 3.0 in all courses taken at the University of Maryland and all other institutions is required for internal and external transfer students.

Questions:

  1. If gateways are in progress during Fall 2026, can an application be made during that semester for admittance to the major during the Spring 2027 semester?
  2. Is the engineering LEP a sure admittance given the gateways are met? I'm familiar with CS being highly restrictive and the Smith School admitting all applicants meeting the gateways and a 3.6 GPA requirement. Some people informed me that Clark has guaranteed admittance given gateways are met, but I've gotten some conflicting information on that front.
  3. Can first semester freshman request special permission over the summer to take ENES/ENAE classes during the Fall?
