Lately I've been staying calm when I wake up and before I give myself a chance to spiral in thought, immediately start counting my breaths, with a twist.
When I inhale I vocalize the number 1 and also slowly trace the number 1 as if I were drawing it in my mind, for the exhale I vocalize it again and this time draw the written word one in my mind. This makes the exhale longer than the inhale which is supposed to signal rest and safety to your body. And so on 2,3,4 etc. I don't think I've ever made it past 10. Hope this helps someone!
