Need ideas to stop players from cutting the corner of OB.

We have a dogleg right par 5 where the natural “miss” for many players is a slice toward a private property fence, which is marked OB. The issue is that some players are intentionally trying to cut the corner to reach the green, despite posted signage asking them not to. This has led to repeated damage to the fence and ongoing maintenance costs.

Beyond simply adding trees, we’re exploring alternative solutions to discourage this play.

One option we’re considering is creating an internal OB buffer by moving the OB line 10–15 yards inside the fence. Any ball that comes to rest in this area (between the new OB line and the fence) would be treated as OB, and players would be required to proceed to a designated drop area that does not provide a direct advantage toward the green.

The goal would be to remove the incentive to cut the corner while still keeping play moving and protecting the adjacent property.

Has anyone implemented a similar solution, or found other effective ways to discourage players from attempting this type of shortcut?
